AT Wisbech on Tuesday the Eastern Licensing Authority, Mr. W. P. S. Ormond, suspended one articulated vehicle from the A licence of J. E. Kenny Ltd., haulage contractors of Peterborough. for one month. The company had been ordered to appear before the LA to answer allegations that its fleet of vehicles had not been maintained satisfactorily.
Giving reasons why the licence should not be suspended, revoked or curtailed, Mr. J. Kenny, chairman of the company, said that 35 vehicles were operated at present. During the past two years some £58,000 had been spent on new vehicles. but some difficulty had been experienced with them. Engines had seized up and some had been rebuilt five times in a year. During the past year the company had spent £17,216 on expenses, repairs and maintenance.
To add to the problems. said Mr. Kenny, he had suffered a heart attack
last June and was away from work for two months. He had been in charge of the maintenance department and had also been responsible for inspecting lorries to check if they were faulty. His absence had meant an immediate cessation of maintenance checks.
