The Transport & General Workers Union says the "next logical step' is a national ballot for industrial action which would affect thousands of workers, including drivers.
Industrial unrest at the dairy giant comes hand in hand with further action from lobbying group Farmers for Action which is intensifying its campaign against both Dairy Crest and Robert Wiseman Dairies through a series of blockades (CM 25-31 July).
The group is hoping that its action will shut down plants in Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, as well as England.
"An escalating number of protests are already being planned where we will bring out greater numbers," says an FFA statement. 'We are now led to believe that some of our friends from the haulage industry are corning out in our support."
Farmers have accused both dairies of lowering farm gate prices in order to boost their own profits.
