AAR. MARPLES last week asked to be .1.Y1 given details of any cases where large bus companies had opposed the running of rural services by smaller concerns. Complaints that this was happening were made in the Commons by Sir Cyril Osborne (Cons.. Louth) who asked that the smaller companies should not be prevented from providing village services.
The Minister pointed out that if small independent operators wished to run services they could apply to the Traffic Commissioners for a licence. • Mr. Marples was being questioned about his attitude towards the Jack Report, which once again turned out to be I am not yet in a position to announce Her Majesty's Government's decision or any action to be taken arising out of the recommendations in the Report."
Mr. Marples agreed that the question of rural transport was urgent, but pointed to the demand from M.P.s for a reduction in.Government expenditure, and said that this would be increased if the Jack Report recommendations were implemented.
