ALTHOUGH Bury excursion operators did not seek to link catchment areas and destinations, they were not prepared to accept a blanket clause forbidding all linking. They Would accept a condition that would prohibit the linking of Colwyn Bay and Llandudno, the only points likely to be connected.
The North Western Traffic Commissioners were told this at Manchester, on Tuesday, by Mr. H. Backhouse, for W. H. Sheldon and Haworth Schofield, Ltd., who were seeking the renewal of excursion and tours licences. The concern were also making representations regarding the Commissioners' proposals to prohibit unauthorized linking.
Mr. F. Williamson, chairman, stated that as it had already been found that there was widespread irregularity, to prohibit only two destinations would give rise to the misapprehension that other places could be linked.
There had been no suggestion of irregularity at Bury, said Mr. Backhouse. Therefore --the applicants should not' be penalized. Decision was reserved.
