THE controlled crossing where the road out of Ayr meets the runway of Prestwick airport is to remain for the present, but it is honed that much of the traffic using the road will be diverted when the Prestwick by-pass is completed. When an extended runway is in use next summer, a loop road will be provided if it is thought necessary. A. tunnel was out of the question.
Sir Thomas Moore (Cons., Ayr) was told this by Mr. Rippon, Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Aviation, in the House of Commons last week.
