THE PHOTOS in your interesting article How Golden is Golden Opportunity Volvo? (CM, February 21) shows up a serious fault in the inspection procedure by the FTA inspector. He is shown using an ordinary flashlight. Surely in the interest of safet. he should have been using a spark-proof lamp.
Not only tankers carry dangerous and flammable chemicals, as sometimes flat wagons carry bottles of gas!
In his own interests I suggest that before he flattens some unsuspecting garage premises he obtains a spark-proof torch. PETER NELSON Norwich The FTA says that special Ram( proof inspection lamps are not essential when inspecting vehicles carrying non-hazardot loads. Its inspectors are experienced engineers and would use special flame-proof lamps if any risk was involved.
