DY the use of a new Morris mobile photographic darkroom, which can be connected with the publishing office by telephone line, a photograph of a special event can be reproduced and printed within 40 minutes of being taken. Stewart and Ardern, Ltd., The Vale, London, W.3, supplied the vehicle, which has Cunard bodywork, to the Daily News, Ltd., owners of The Star and the News Chronicle.
The chassis is an extended 30-cwt. type with ambulance springs. The body has two darkrooms. Negatives and plates can be handed into the rear compartment through a special aperture: the door may not be opened because light would enter.
Heaters are installed under work benches. Air enters through slatted inlets and is expelled by electric fans so that temperature, and humidity can be controlled. A supply of running water is provided. Photographic equipment is of standard type.
The chief purpose of the vehicle is to provide on-the-spot development and telephoto transmission facilities at scenes of news interest. It is finished in an inconspicuous chocolate colour.
