It is time the licensing authorities clamped down on the people who are parking on back streets. These are not only panel vans but arfics and many of them are owned by firms who are cutting prices to get work and then have nowhere to park their vehicles.
So now we read that the Government wants to get rid of the need to get an 0-licence up to six tonnes. This is going to increase back-street parking and more cut-throat competition to the genuine haulier.
We don't mind real competition, but how can you call it fair when we abide by the 0-licence law and pay thousands in rates while they park anywhere and work all hours?
So why can someone run a thousand Transits at cutthroat rates, park in the front garden, pay 110 a day in the hand to people out of work and yet if we want a 7.5-tonner we need a licence?
