AIR-CHARTER Companies had much work to do in the General Election, for the candidates and for the Press and cinemas. Air Commerce, Ltd., Heston, flew Mr. Malcolm MacDonald to Newcastle on an urgent call to help his father. The same company carried Lord de la Warr on an electioneering trip, and then booked up to bring Mr. Ramsay MacDonald 'from :Newcastle to London. The company also arranged an early morning service to the north to carry special election copies of a London newspaper.
Birkett Air Service, Ltd., took Lord William Montagu-Douglas-Scott, brother of the Duchess of Gloucester, to an election meeting in Carlisle immediately after the Royal wedding. This company carried the Duke of Gloucester himself in July, 1933, when he acted as escort to his equerry, Capt. Brooke, when the latter flew to France on his honeymoon.
The Croydon companies, including Commercial Air Hire, Ltd., Wrightways, Ltd., 011ey Air Service Ltd., and Surrey Flying Services, Ltd., also were busy during election week.
