DURING November, Capt. Ivor .McClure, operational adviser to the Director General of Civil Aviation, and Mr. Banks, also of the. Air Ministry, have been in Northern Ireland exploring the possibility of Lough. Foyle as a base for seaplanes and as a terminal fuelling station for a transAtlantic service.
Other places that have been considered are Galway, Cork and Bantry Bay, but a centre in Northern Ireland is much more likely.
The trans-Atlantic question, on which Imperial Airways, Ltd., is actively engaged, Will bring a new importance to our internal air lines, because of the indispensability of complete ground equipment (radio and light beacons and aerodromes) on all feeder routes to the Irish base. There will probably be feeder services to Glasgow, Liverp6or, Manchester, Birinffigham and London, with through. connections to Northern Europe (probably via Amsterdam) and Central and Southern Europe (probably via Cologne and parts respectively).
