Licensing Authority
THE Minister of Transport has selected Major-General A. F. I. Elmslie, C.13., C.B.E., A.M.I.Mech.E., MInst.T., for appointment as chairman of Traffic Commissioners and Licensing Authority for the North Western Traffic Area in place of Mr. F. Williamson, C.B.E., M.Inst.T., who is retiring. General Elmslie will take up his appointment on March 1, 1962. Major-General Elmslie, who is 56 years old, was educated at Farnham Grammar School and the Royal Military College, Sandhurst. From 1925 to 1960 he served in the Royal Army Service Corps and during that time was mentioned in dispatches and was awarded the C.B. and C.B.E. Much of his army career was spent with transport units both in the United Kingdom and overseas. Mr. Williamson leaves the North Western Traffic Area after an association which began in 1931 and has continued, with only one break at Headquarters, for over 31 years. He has held his present post for the past 13 years, and was honoured at a luncheon held at the Savoy Hotel, Blackpool, last week, when Mr. Hubert Allen, chairman and managing director of Yelloway Motor Services and chairman of the North Western Area of the Passenger Vehicle Operators

• antique table on behalf on the general managers and officials of Crosville Motor Services, Lancashire United Transport, North Western Road Car Company, Ribble Motor Services, members of the Passenger Vehicle Operators Association and members of the Amalgamated Horse and Motor Owners Association. Thirty-six representatives of these companies and organizations were present, and Mr. H. Bottomley, general manager of Ribble Motor Services, presided.
