• The road haulage and abnormal loads charges will add about £33m to transport costs, forecast Mrs. Castle. These were the only additions to transport costs that would result from her Bill.
The Government would shortly discuss with both sides of industry productivity measures to absorb any cost increases resulting from the proposed reductions in drivers' hours, so this should not add substantially to user costs, she said. Nor should there be any addition to the cost of administering the licensing system.
Except for some abnormal loads the total effect on the cost and even more on the delivery price of any individual consignment would be minimal.
