For the second time in four years, I see, an apprentice from W. Alexander and Co. (Coachbuilders) Ltd., Falkirk, has won the City , Livery Companies and Institute first prize for vehicle bodywork. He is Peter Duncan, who completed his apprenticeship last November and is now on a day-release course in business studies and is taking a supervisor's course in his own time.
Judging by past experience, and his own ability, Peter can look forward to a rewarding future. The previous Alexander winner, Thomas Harley, is now studying at General Motors' institute at Flint and their bus and truck works at Detroit; he won a Rotary international scholarship.
Alexanders are now apprentice-training in earnest, and have opened an off-the-job training centre for all first-year lads at Falkirk.
