A device which will activate the engine stop control on diesel-engined vehicles, whenever the ignition is turned off, has been introduced by Waso.
Designed primarily to allow steering locks to be fitted without the danger of the vehicle being driven with the steering locked, the unit consists of an electric motor which is connected by gears to the stop control cable.
When the ignition switch is turned off the motor is activated and the stop control cable is pulled to the off position. A change-over switch in the unit automatically returns the stop control to the on position when the ignition is turned on.
In France it is already mandatory for diesel-engined vehicles with steering locks to have the stop control controlled from the ignition switch and it is expected that EEC legislation will follow.
