TrKing's Lynn haulier handling ansport for Campbell's Soups Ltd. had done so at a financial loss, Mr. M. H. Jackson-Lipkin told the Transport Tribunal in London on Wednesday.
He was appearing for Fast Freight (Road Haulage) Ltd., appealing against the decision of the Eastern deputy Licensing Authority not to allow the company to transfer four vehicles from Contract to public A licence. Mr. Jackson-Lipkin said that his clients had provided a transport service for Campbell's on Contract A for a number of years with the help of a wholly owned subsidiary and a, number of sub-contractors. The operation was making a loss.
When the contract came up for renewal the managing director, Mr. Lewington, approached Campbell's for an increase in the rates. Campbell's offered to support him in an application for an A licence. Mr. Jackson-Lipkin submitted that a prima facie case for a grant had been made out and had not been rebutted by the objectors.
The case was continued.
Haulier Warned
WHEN Mr. Roy Smith, haulier. of VY Staplehurst, Kent, appeared before the South Eastern Licensing Authority at Maidstone on Wednesday in connection with 19 convictions concerning vehicles used by J. and R. F. Smith of Staplehurst, Mr. H. J. Thom told him that the only really fitting punishment was to revoke his licences once and for all. But the L.A. reserved his decision for six months, with a warning that any further offences would bring revocation.
Seven out of 10 Granted INCREASED production by British I Gypsum Ltd., Rochester, meant that the firm which did most of the carrying of their products needed another 10 lorries, the South Eastern L.A., Mr. H. J. \ Thom, was told at Maidstone on Wednesday. Arnold Transport Co. (Rochester) Ltd. was applying for a• variation of its A licence to include an additional 10 lorries. There were five objectors, including B.R. and B.R.S. He granted the firm permission to add seven vehicles to its licence and said it could apply again if this was found to be insufficient.
B for 23 vehicles
A T Sheffield on Tuesday, E. W. r& Ambrose and Co., Chesterfield, were granted 23 vehicles on B licence. The normal user was: "Excavated and filling materials to and from building sites, roads, and civil engineering works, within a radius of 50 miles of base at Wharf Lane, Chesterfield for delivery within a radius of 15 miles of such sites ".
