he Road Commander 6x4 esi ned for a gcw of 76 tons I is powered by a Caterpillar 6 P T325 engine. This is a bocharged six-cylinder den with a capacity of 14.6 es (891cuin) which deveis 240kW (325bhp) at *rpm.
t is the same basic engine as t fitted to the 4x2 tractive it. Maximum torque is 75Nm (1,0151b ft) at *rpm.
Vial a wheelbase to mid;ie of 4.24m (13ft I lin), the lite has a kerb weight of lund 7.5 tons.
k Fuller RTO 12513 constant-mesh gearbox is specified, giving 13 forward speeds, while at the rear a double-reduction Eaton 44DP bogie is used with a 6.21 to 1 ratio.
One very interesting feature of the new White is the inclusion, as a standard fitment, of a Caterpillar Brakesaver hydraulic retarder. This is built into the flywheel and uses engine oil working on stator elements and a rotor integral with the engine.
This can be set at "automatic" to come into operation every time the throttle is released, or at "manual", via a consolemounted switch.
The list price of £38,000 for the Road Commander includes around £1,700 for the retarder.
Ross power-assisted steering is standard.
