Is William Rodgers, Secretary of State for Transport, deliberately hiding a report on whether the Government should be so daring as to inquire.into overnight accommodation for lorry drivers? The Highway, published by the Transport and General Workers' Union, thinks he is and demands to know when he is "going to come clean."
According to Jack Ashwell, national secretary of the union's road transport commercial group, the Secretary of State has had the report for months. Perhaps he has been so busy with his public relations visits all over the country that he has not had time to read it.
Jack Ashwell suspects something more sinister. He asks "Is there a recommendation in it . . that might lead to the Government having to spend some money?" Let it never be said that a Labour Government was reluctant to spend the taxpayers money.
