by a balance pipe that runs through a steel sheath. Despite being so protected, it is still in a very vulnerable position, and must be regularly looked at.
Just to the rear of the fuel tank, an air dryer means that none bf the air tanks need to be drained. This is a Bendix Westinghouse item, and has a heater mounted in its base to prevent freezing.
The air dryer will expel air through the purge valve, which regenerates the dessicant. This should be changed annually, and any oil present indicates looming compressor problems.
