• Harwich-based haulier Harwich International has been forced to close its doors with the loss of 10 drivers' jobs. When it tried to pass on diesel increases to customers they said they would use cheaper foreign hauliers instead.
Managing director Shaun Neal says not even the opportunity to flag-out could save his company. "It made no profitable sense for us," he says. "Besides, I am British and I want to stay in business that way." Neal says his customers told him he is now too expensive to use after the Budget He says the closure this Friday (26 March), comes on the first anniversary of the company. "I hope to get back into this industry in the future when UK hauliers receive fair and sensible policies from the Government," he says.
