QCOTTISH OMNIBUSES, LTD., who 4-1 estimate they are losing thousands of passengers a year by the operations or " pirate " minibuses, are to prosecute illegal operators if sufficient evidence can be obtained. Bus crews have been asked by Mr. R. Mackenzie, general manager, to report any instances of illegal passenger transport.
An official of Scottish Omnibuses said that all reports would be investigated officially and action would be taken where required. "These activities of 'pirate' operators are not confined to Scotland but are general throughout the country," be said. " In the past few years the practice has grown and they must be extracting thousands of passengers annually from us."
The illegal use of minibuses had floutished after the Government relaxed regulations regarding the certificate of fitness for vehicles. The certificate was issued to every passenger service vehicle in order to develop minibus services jr rural areas where small buses might b2 economic, the official added.
