WILLIAM AMOS, a pioneer of public transport in the Scottish Borders, has died at Galashiels at the age of 85.

With his brothers James arid Andrew, William Amos provided passenger transport from Yarrow to other parts of the region before the First World War. Lorries with bus bodies were used.

Later they joined with North of England interests to form Brook and Amos. William became general manager for the Borders, a job he kept for more than 45 years.

Brook and Amos was taken over in 1962 by Scottish Motor Traction, the forerunner of the Scottish Bus Group.
