extending their service at the Newry Customs post following discussions with the Northern Ireland Road Transport Association.
This, the hauliers say, would help combat delays which are currently costing thousands of pounds.
"The hauliers came away from the meeting satisfied," said Frank McIlvanna, secretary of the NIRTA. "Some changes will be on the way, although it is not necessarily what we have been looking for. Our case was broadly accepted and they have shown as much sympathy as I would expect."
Mr McIlvanna explained that the problem was the amount of driver down-time caused by the delays.
The customs post in Newry is open from 8am until 9pm but a specific request is required for an officer to attend after 5pm.
