Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

TWO WASTE collection contracts have been handed over to private sector companies Waste Management (part of the National Freight Consortium) and Cleanaway.

Waste Management has won a five-year contract for collecting domestic waste, street cleaning and other environmental services in the Wirral area of Merseyside.

The contract starts on June 13 and the company will be taking over the existing fleet of the Metropolitan Borough of Wirral of 55 vehicles. Waste Management will be adding between eight and 10 new vehicles to the fleet.

The saving to the Borough will be £1.4m each year, while the contract is worth an annual £2.37m to Waste Management.

Cleanaway has gained a fiveyear contract from Mendip District Council involving 15 vehicles.

The contract is valued at £1.6m and should save the council £600,000 over the five year period. Twenty-nine of the existing 34 employees involved in refuse collection will be kept on by Cleanaway to provide a service to 33,000 properties each week.

The vehicles include seven Shelvoke and Drewry Revopak vehicles with a capacity of 10cum (13cuyd) and 15cum (20cuyd) and a Bedford 7.5tonne tipper. The company is buying two smaller vehicles for use in rural areas, where their manoeuvrability will prove useful.

The company's tender was not the lowest received.
