THE ROAD TRANSPORT Industry Training Board has confirmed its choice of a new manager for Motec, its Multi Occupational Training and Education Centre at High Ercall in Shropshire (CM, November 5). Gordon Duncan has been involved with the RTITB since 1972 and his appointment is part of the Board's plan to use younger men with technical background in the industry and experience of operating in commercial conditions.
Mr Duncan replaces previous Motec general manager and former naval offier, Hugh Thompson who resigned after refusing to sign a new contract in a management structure shake-up which has cut back staff levels from 120 to 62.
Overall, the RTITB has cut its staffing levels by 50 per cent, leaving 400 employees. In the Skills Assessment service Geoff Shepherd has resigned because of the reductions. His responsibilities will be taken over by George Gee who is responsible for research and development into skills assessment.
