TRANSPORT operators car rying frozen foodstuffs on in ternational journeys will wel come a new Department o Transport publication called I Guide to the Internationa Carriage of Perishable Food stuffs.
Its main purpose is to ex plain the effect of the Intern ational Carriage of Perishabl Foodstuffs Act 1976 and it associated regulations. 'Eli act comes into force tx October 1, applying the provi sions of the European agree ment on the international car riage of perishable foodstuffi known as ATP.
The ATP agreement wa designed to facilitate the in ternational carriage of frozer deep-frozen and chilled food by using common standard for testing and certifying mill vehicles, railway wagons an containers used in refrigerate' traffic.
The Act's implementatiol means that the ATP agree ment is in force in this country Other countries par ticipating in the ATP agree ment are Austria, Belgium Denmark, France, West Ger many, Italy, Luxembourg, Th Netherlands, Spain, the USSR and Yugoslavia. As fron Monday, operators enterin; these countries 'with refriger ated outfits should have valid ATP certificate or proo of one.
The guide explains ho' equipment can be tested am certified, plus information oi recommended temperature for various refrigerated pro ducts.
