According to 'a report of the Acting British Consul-General at Algiers, which has just been issued-by the Department of Overseas Trade, there are registered in Algeria 2,055 lorries, 344 omnibuses, 12,373 touring cars and 559 motorcycles. These figures, however, do not indicate the actual number of vehicles in use in the country, as it includes those registered which have since been exported. The total number of motor vehicles taxed is 9,265, of which 4,297' are in the Department of Algiers. The heavy import duties naturally prevent foreign competition from beComing important, but quite a number of Forand Fiat vehieles are to be seen in use. Several hundred 'taxicabs are now running on the streets of Algiers, these
being chiefly Citroens and Delvhayes. , .
