THE West Midland Licensing Authority. Mr, W. P. James, made a statement last week regarding the grant of special A licences to purchasers of British Road Services assets. He ,was speaking at the annual dinner of the Birmingham Sub-area of the Road Haulage Association.
His staff would require to know, he said, where the vehicles would be based. where they would operate and the type of work it was proposed to undertake. He commended the R.H.A. for the help given to those intending to return -to the industry.
Mr. C. Collins, sub-area chairman, pointed out that the 20th anniversary of the 1933 Act would coincide with a measure of freedom being given back to the industry. The 1947 Act had shattered the licensing system. With the help of the Licensing Authorities, the R.H.A. would prove the continued worth of the 1933 Act and that the 1953 measure was a "most sensible piece of amendment."
