D EASONS why he had not put
forward a scheme for building a Humber bridge, have been given by the Minister of Transport in a ,letter to Mr. E L Mallalieu M P The Minister said that a Humber bridge Would cost about Dim. and would mainly benefit local traffic. A24
He understood that a scheme for a bridge had not been precisely formulated by local authorities, so that Parliamentary powers would have to be obtained. A Bill was promoted in 1931. but was withdrawn after opposition by navigational interests.
