Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

T"application by Crosville Motor Services Ltd. to enable the company to enter the extended tours field was continued at a three-day public inquiry at Manchester this week. Crosville wanted to introduce tours to Bournemouth and Great Yarmouth and express services between Widnes and Chester, Denbigh and Chester, and Rhyl and Chester to link up with these tours. (The Commercial Motor, October 25.)

. Evidence was given by Mr. J.-Niblock, of. Crosville, who said he considered that feeder services which were' geared to link up with tours were a better facility than stage carriage services. Commenting on the pre-war period when Crosville had operated exlended tours, Mr. Niblock said these had not, as had been suggested, been operated solely for propaganda purposes.

Mr. W. Jones, of Florence Motors Ltd., Smiths Tours (Wigan) Ltd. and Webster Bros. (Wigan) Ltd.,. all objectors, stated their tours were centred at Wigan and operation was based on a variety, of feeder services. They could not afford to suffer any abstractions on their Bournemouth tOur, and had no stage carriage services to fall back on like

Crosville. Mr. J. Diamond, for Crosville, countered that the three companies also had no unremunerative stage carriage services.

Objecting for Batty-Holt Touring Services Ltd., Mr. A. Bolton said the company ran seven-day tours to Bournemouth and Great Yarmouth and bad carried 136 passengers from Chester and North Wales during the past season. These people had travelled by themselves to picking-up points in Manchester or Liverpool.

The application was described as " frightening " by Mr. E. T. Davies, general manager of Salopia Saloon Coaches Ltd., also objecting, and be added that in 1963 they had carried 760 passengers on their Bournemouth tour. Of these, 328 had been carried on their Ellesmere Port-Chester feeder. service, Crosville Would be drawing passengers from the heart of Salopia territory if this application were granted. Objections were also lodged by W. Robinson and Sons (Gt. Harwood) Ltd., Shearings 'fours (Manchester) Ltd:, Stanley Spencers Tours (Manchester) Ltd. and Happiway Tours (Manchester) Ltd.

The application is to be continued on December 4.
