• The British Transport Docks Board's sixth ferry terminal at Hull came into operation on January 23 when the motor vessel Orion docked at the end of her maiden voyage from Finland. The terminal has been built by the Docks Board in Queen' Elizabeth Dock for Finnhumber Ferries, a company jointly owned by Finland Steamship Company /United Baltic Corporation, for a unit load service between Hull and Finland.

Mantyluoto will involve same-day turnround at Hull every Friday. This weekly service will be doubled in April when she is due to be joined by a sistel ship which will sail from Hull every Tuesday to Helsinki and Kotka.
Agents for the new service are Johr Good and Sons Ltd, the stevedores beim Hull and Humber Cargo Handling Co Ltd.
