• Argyle Motor Manufacturing Co, Glasgow, the independent Scottish truck builder, has stopped the production of the 16-ton gvw Christina model introduced in May 1970 because of strong competition in that weight bracket. The company is now concentrating its efforts on 24and 32-ton machines. The new 24-ton six-wheeler Karen and 32-ton Linsay tractive unit models are still only at the drawing-board stage but William Moffat, head of Argyle, is confident they have a future. In the meantime, Argyle has built a special tractor, named the Trilby, for the British Steel Corporation. The vehicle has a kerb weight of over 15 tons, a gcw of 120 tons and is powered by a Cummins 220 diesel. Should proving trials by BSC be satisfactory, an order for two further vehicles could follow.
