SPEAKING at the annual dinner of the Livestock Functional Group of the Road Haulage Association's Northern Area (Western Section), at Keswick, Mr. I. Mallinson, chairman of the section, said he hoped that the Association would take a more prominent part in the work of road-safety committees or of road-improvement committees, for the benefit of the community in general.
He stressed the fact that 'livestock haulage was a seasonal occupation, extending over about seven months of the year, and that it would be difficult to maintain a small family business unless permits were granted,
Mr. A. Birchwood, Of the Ministry of Transport, paid tribute to-the admirable work Of hauliers for the "Ministry or Food during the busy auttimri season.'
