PLANS are well advanced for relaxation of the old Glasgow The region has inherited from the older Corporation the 40-year-old restrictions which prevent the Scottish Bus Group from carrying passengers within the old city limit although it can set down incoming passengers. This monopoly restriction still affects a variety of perimeter areas of Glasgow and results in wasteful duplication and inadequate use of capacity at peak periods.
It has been agreed now that these restrictions will end in the autumn when rationalisation of services is proposed. Plans are now under consideration for effective integration and these will be discussed by the region later this year.
