CENTRAL Government was spending over f 8 m on subsidies to public transport in Wales in the current financial year, and this excluded any contribution through rate support grant, said Mr John Morris, the Welsh Secretary, last week.
He was asked by Mr loan Evans (Labour, Aberdare) what local authorities in Wales were spending money to subsidize public transport, and replied that each of the new county councils was supporting bus services in its area.
He understood that in all some £1.3m would be spent in this way in the c financial year, went Morris.
