Recently, at a meeting convened by the Uckfield Chamber of Commerce, Mr. P. S. Woodhouse, secretary of the South-Eastern Area of A.R.O., explained the emergency group system to A, B, and C-licence holders. He said that the scheme was a voluntary one, and that operators would not lose control of their vehicles.
In answer to a question, he stated that if an operator refused to join in a scheme, the Licensing Authority laid down that there would be no petrol for him. Mr. Woodhouse suggested that a shadow group should be formed, so that a committee could collect further information and then decide the composition of the proper groups. With this the meeting concurred, and proceeded to elect its committee.
