WEST Germany is waiting to be called before the European Court in Luxembourg after suspending the 450km limit for road vehicles.
The only hope the Federal Republic has is that the European Transport Ministers will cancel the distance regulation later this month.
Evidence has been prepared by Germany to prove that the 450km limit is unrealistic in many types of operation.
This has been collated since 1971 and was first presented by one operator to the administration of the Baden Wiirtternberg regi0 n, which passed it to the government in Bonn.
The evidence was compiled by Dr Herbert Cordes, the head of Cordes and Simon, which operates 60 vehicles from the Blak Forest.
Tachographs
Tachograph charts showed that, keepi g to the regulations, vehicles on short distance work Could cover 450km in less than the regulation eight-hour day.
Dr Cordes, an economist, argued thattlit was uneconomic to under utilise the vehicles, and his argument was taken up by the regional administration.
The matter carries an important side issue because it is expected that if the European Transport Ministers waive the distance regulation, it will only be for those vehicles fitted with tachographs.
