THE question of allowing small vans. based on private car designs. to continue competing in Class A of the Lorry Driver of the Year competition is tinder review.

The national organizing committee of the competition decided, in Coventry on Tuesday, to leavethe entry of these small vans untouched during 1961, except to " tighten-up" the rules, but to make a special review, based on this year's competitions, before the 1962 competitions begin. It was confirmed that the 1961 National final would be held at Fort Dunlop, Birmingham, on September 17. A new centre this year for an eliminating contest will be Leicester.

The national committee decided to sponsor a trophy in memory of Mr. Torn Austin, a South Wales driver who lost his life when trying to assist the occupants of a car which had crashed through a bridge on to a railway line: he was struck by a train.
