AL semi-trailers made by The Northern Trailer Company plated for operation at the amended C and U regulation gross weights, are to be constructed using fabricated I-section beams for the main frames.
This enables the company to offer units capable of carrying greater payloads whilst at the same time incorporating greater strength and having a lighter unladen weight.
As an example, a 32 ft. long unit having a width of 8 ft. 2 in. fitted with 20,000 lb. axles, 16.5 in. >( 7 in. brakes, 9.00-20, 14 ply tyres and a 1 in. nominal hardwood floor; weighs about 4 tons, ready for the road.
