FOLLOWING negotiations with MGM Brakes Inc., Cloverdale, California, the Westinghouse Brake and Signal Co. Ltd., have obtained exclusive rights to the patents, designs and technical data relating to the MGM spring-brake system in the majority of Commonwealth countries.
The full range of MGM brakes will be manufactured in the works of the Westinghouse Automotive Division, Bristol, the capacity of which has been considerably increased to accommodate the project. Providing fail-safe parking and emergency braking for heavy vehicles, the unit has been employed by a number of British manufacturers since its introduction in 1956.
It is noteworthy that a substantial proportion of all new American vehicles are fitted with the system, and Westinghouse believe that they can achieve a comparable coverage in this country. It is claimed that the brake will cater for the new standards of safety outlined in the 1964 amended C and U regulations.
