THE Minister of Transport has made a grant of more than £185,000 to West Riding County Council towards the cost, estimated at £247,350, of building an extension to the Leeds ring road. Traffic from places east of Leeds (making for the Bradford area via the ring road) at present finds difficulty in getting on to the Bradford road. This new link will provide, a direct route.
It will be about 14 miles long and will run from the western terminal point of the ring road at the Leeds—Shipley road (A.657), to the Leeds—Bradford road (A.647). Roundabouts will be provided at its junctions with A.657 and A.647. A 33-ft.-wide three-lane carriageway will be contained in an overall width of 57 ft. Work will occupy 18 months.
