Al independent arbitrator has awarded an increase of 30s. a week to drivers employed by the Stechford, Birmingham haulage firm of Millichamp Haulage Ltd., who staged an 11-week unofficial strike last autumn in support of a pay claim.
The drivers were seeking £2 a week as a Birmingham "differential" to counteract high living costs in the city and the claim caused national concern among members of the RHA, who feared that it would be followed by similar claims in other cities.
