MICHELIN'S new 70mm negative offset wheel (see page 18) will "soon be available," says the tyre and wheel manufacturer.
The 22.5x11.75 — 10-N70M22 wheel gives an increase in track of 140mm (5.5in) over a neutral offset wheel.
It is intended to appeal particularly to those operators who wish to convert tandem axle semi-trailers to tri-axles for use at a gcw of 38 tonnes, by adding an axle and using 15R 22.5 tyres on each axle.
Michelin believes 70mm is the maximum offset which is possible without causing axle bearing load problems. No cones can be fitted to the 70mm offset spigotmounted wheels and shorter wheel studs will be necessary. Michelin says that axle manufacturers should be consulted for stud details.
