Would Mr. Haxby (CM January 9) care to say what has been done to foster the training of road haulage workers in Scotland? He states that the RTITB "has been operative—as regards training—for just over two years," yet so far I can see no sign of any Motec in this neck of the woods, not even a brick.
To mention the furniture removing and warehousing section of the industry, it is a fact according to the Board's Glasgow office that this training has been farmed out to certain members of the NAFWR which, despite what they may say, is a closed shop as most nonmembers appreciate, resulting in training for members only.
How does the Board propose to train nonmembers of the NAFWR?
The Board is a statutory body as we all know only too well, and it would be very interesting to know who gives it the right to delegate its statutory responsibility in training to the NAFWR.
Since the Board has the experience and resources to mean what it says, when is it going to stop passing the buck and get the specialists in Capitol House out thereof and into the field to display their undoubted talents?
Small wonder so many operators are needled by the Board.
