FROM A SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT
L'OLLOWING a meeting to discuss the I problem of standardization of weights and dimensions for road vehicles. the Commission of the European Economic Community (the Common Market) has called for a study of the problem at Community level, . No date has been suggested for the studies to begin,
The meeting arose from the decision earlier this year that all member countries must inform the Commission of any proposed legislation that would affect transport in their own country. In this instance, the Benelux countries had notified their proposals to enforce, from next October, weights and dimensions which are not in accordance with those adopted in October. 1960, by the European Conference of Ministers of Transport.
Two community countries, Holland and Italy, have not accepted the E.C.M.T. resolution. One result of the meeting was to establish that the E.C.M.T. recommendations, so far as
they relate to weights and dimensions, are at present only applied by France and Germany. There were, it was obvious, three different systems at present followed in the Community.
