STRIKING proof of the latest developments in the design of chassis for passenger vehicles, both for buses and coaches, is afforded by the new Model, 6038, Fiat, which was recently received by Fiat (England), Ltd., 43-44, Albemarle Street, London,
from the Fiat works in Turin.
The chief innovation in this chassis is the employment of a six-cylindered engine of 75 mm. bore and 120 mm. stroke, having forced-feed lubrication, Fiat electric starter and Fiat dynamo for lighting purposes. The clutch is
of the steel disc type and conveys the drive to a gearbox affording four speeds and a reverse, engine, gearbox and clutch housing being built up as a unit.
The rear axle is a cast-steel casing carrying an overhead worm. The axle is of the full-floating type, the shafts being relieved from all stresses except that of the drive. The wheelbaseis ample, being 15 ft. 3 ins.„ and the body space is 17 ft. 8 ins. Steel disc wheels are employed, these being equipped
with pneumatic tyres, singles at the front and twins at the rear.
It is intended to show this chassis at Olympia equipped with a 24-seater bus body of the pay-as-you-enter type, having a driver-operated double door at the near side, a driver's door at the off side and an emergency door at the rear. The seats will be upholstered in leather and drop windows with patent controls provided.
The chassis price, including six tyres, is £575, and the bus complete, as exhibited, will be priced at £950.
