AN application, held under the provisions of section 173(1)(c) by J. S. Stirk and Sons, Ltd., Staindrop (Durham), was granted by the Northern. Licensing Authority, Mr. J. A. T. Hanlon, at Newcastle upon Tyne last week.
For the applicants, Mr. T. H. Campbell Wardlaw said that the partners in the firm were Mr. I, S. Stirk and his two sons. The father intended to retire from the business, and it was for this reason that the application—for two vehicles on A licence, 16 on B, and a separate vehicle on B licence—was made. It was simply a domestic arrangement, made at the suggestion of the firm's accountants.
Mr. Hanlon was assured that no negotations were pending for a takeover by any other company and it was not intended to dispose of the shares or holdings to any other concern.
