NAEMBERSHIP of the Road Operators' IVI Safety Council at December 31 last comprised some 210 road transport undertakings, according to the council's report for 1961. For the council's safedriving competition 78,144 drivers were entered, and 46,069 conductors were entered for the conductors' award of merit competition.
The considerable increase in the number of entrants for the conductors' competition, says the report, was due mainly to the fact that the London Transport Executive had entered, for the first time, their 16,000 conductors. Referring to the safe-driving competition, the report says: "The administrative work involved for the employer is small but the gain to the owner or operator of the 'transport fleet (whether the mirober of vehicles be small or large) is very great."
