A RADICAL plan for revamping London Transport's fares structure was withdrawn last week from a meeting of the Greater London Council. The move followed a report from LT that in view of the Government's intention to remove wages restrainint the undertakings estimated deficit for 1974 would increase from £24m to about £46m.
LT estimates that by the end of the year its fares will be 30 per cent cheaper, relative to the cost of living, than they were at the last. increase nearly two years ago. The GLC plan — drawn up by its transport and policy and resources committee — called for studies into the implecations of varying levels of flat fares. It is now to be reexamined.
