IT/HEN 'asked by Sir VVavell Wake' rif field 'Why "expenditure on road imProvemehts had decreased, although the total amount accruing through taxation had increased since 1938, the Minister of Transport said that mechanization had partly offset costs.
Expenditure fromthe Road Fund was limited by Parliamentary vote and the Minister stated that he would welconie a larger provision, but in present economic circumstances he did not feel justified in asking for more than the essential minimum.
