• First deliveries of right-hand drive Mercedes-Benz L206D and L306D vans and chassis cabs are now taking place in this country. First seen here at the Earls Court show last year, the range is designed for the up to 3.5 tons gvw category — an area which Mercedes admits has been dominated by Ford and Bedford.
Design features of the vehicles include front-wheel drive, which provides a low loading height, four-speed all-synchromesh gearbox and 65 bhp 2.2-litre diesel engine. The chassis are available in five wheelbases, from 91in. to 138in.
A key factor, says Mercedes, in the launch of the range at this time is the availability of vehicles throughout the company's distributor network before VAT. Prices at the mor.o ent start at £1800.
